- In China, the fad is (safely) dyeing their pet’s hair crazy colors to make their dogs seem like they are other animals! For instance, in Chinese pet stores you may see dogs that look like tigers, panda bears or even Spiderman! This fad has been popular since mid-2010 and shows how the Asian culture has found a unique and creative way to show off their dog!
- Remember Tamagotchis? These playful pixels were all the rage in the 90s popular among kids who were able to own, take care of and provide for their “own” pet, also teaching the children responsibility as the pets meet their end with a “game over” if they go too long without taking care of them. Although the Tamagotchi trend ended in the late 90s, they’re coming back strong in 2013 with a new app available to download and play!
- Coming on to the scene in the early 2000s, robotic pets are still on the rise around the world. These pets are perfect for the owner who isn’t interested in taking their pet outside for walks or cleaning up after their mess! Robotic pets can come as dogs, cats, or other animals! Robotic animals can be used as companions and also for therapy for the elderly.

January is National Train Your Dog Month! Founded in 2010, National Train Your Dog Month began as a way to raise awareness to socialization and training of dogs.
