Pet Facts 101: Non-Traditional Pet Relaxing Methods

by Kiara on October 19, 2012

Have you noticed your pet feeling stressed out and anxious lately? Maybe you should pamper them a bit to get their spirit going again! While there are many traditional methods of relaxation pet owners do such as going for a walk or taking up a dog sport, others choose the non-traditional route to relax their pet. These methods include acupuncture, massages, and a Japanese healing system known as Reiki.
A massage for your pet is a great way to soothe and relax their muscles as well as strengthen your bond if you give them one. If you’re having a hard time giving your pet a massage, you can drop them off at a massage spa or daycare. There are many benefits to giving your animal a massage such as lowering blood pressure, improving digestion and improving athletic agility and coordination. Massages are also great to do before or after your pet’s surgery or reduce stress or emotional pain.
Acupuncture is a popular non-traditional method among pet owners. The practice of acupuncture is thought to help alleviate symptoms and discomfort if your animal is sick. People who have used this method on their pets have seen that acupuncture lessens the effects of arthritis, calms allergic reactions, and even treat kidney disease.
The last and most unconventional way of relieving your pet and relaxing is Reiki, a form of Japanese healing to benefit your pet’s mind, body and spirit. Reiki can be used whether your pet is sick or healthy. Reiki has been practiced on many animals such as dog, cats, horses and even Koi fish. If your pet is healthy, Reiki seeks to maintain their health, relaxation and provide a sense of peace and contentment. Reiki can be a safe compliment to medicines your vet prescribes if your pet is sick.Just like humans, our pets can get stressed out and feel down. Although they don’t go through the every day grind of going to work, paying bills, etc., many pets become anxious or stressed by reflecting their owner’s feelings. Try one of these non-traditional methods and maybe you and your pet will find a new way to relax!

Happy Relaxation!
