Pet Savings Tip: Make Your Own Frosty Paws!

by Kristy on August 5, 2010

Just recently I discovered that dogs actually have ice-cream treats that they can eat. A few months ago I visited my friend from college and she has a super-spoiled Pittbull named Leilah, who is her 4-legged baby. :) Anyway, I saw her take this item out of her freezer called “Frosty Paws”, then she dropped it in Leilah’s bowl and she went-to-town and devoured it within minutes. Needless to say, I could tell that she loved it!

Here is a picture of several dogs having a blast and enjoying some Frosty Paws:

These treats can be quite expensive if you buy them without a coupon. So I was pleased to come across a recipe to make your own version of Frosty Paws.

Homemade Frosty Paws

Ingredients:

::1 cup peanut butter (I suggest all-natural so there is no added junk)

::32 oz Vanilla Yogurt (I suggest organic yogurt, again,so there is no added junk such as artificial sweeteners)

::2 ripe bananas

Directions:

::Blend all ingredients together. Separate into 3 oz paper cups (Dixie cups for example). Place in freezer, once frozen put into ziplock freezer bag. Yields 16 servings.

::Then watch your pups get excited for their new fun and frugal treat!

It is very simple, healthy and much cheaper than buying pre-packaged ice cream treats. Let me know if any of you give it a try, I know your dogs would love it!

Happy Pet Savings! :)

Thanks to 7MSN Ranch for the Homemade Frosty Paws recipe!

Oh wow! Thank you so very much! We just started fostering a dog, and I keep eyeing them at the store because I know how much dogs love them! I can’t wait to try it!

Thanks so much for posting this! I’ve always wanted to get frosty paws for my Basset Hound, but they are just too expensive. I’m making him some of these tonight!

with those 3 ingredients, I don’t see why my children can’t enjoy this frosty treat, when the dog is enjoying her’s =)

my son has been giving our dog (lab) an ice cube for the occasional treat (no calories or fat :)

You certainly could feed it to your children too, safe for both! :) Ice cubes are great too, I love it when dogs “chomp chomp” on them.

FYI: You can make your own yogurt, with milk and a little yogurt (as the starter), I’ve done this in the slow cooker. Recipes can be found on-line.

Careful, Ive heard a lot of dogs are lactose intolerant. =(

Some may be. But I know a lot of dogs that really enjoy it and do quite well. You have to just be the best judge of your pet and their dietary needs. Thank you for your concern Jen. :)

We just buy a small yogurt and freeze it. Open it up, place it on the floor and our dog will spend a half hour licking it until it’s gone. She loves yoplait banana.

Try using soy yogurt instead of dairy. My dog is also lactose intolerant – I have to check for any milk products in dog food and treats. I can’t even give him Milk Bones!

Careful with the ice cubes and dogs biting them…it can cause a tooth to break just like ours.
