Featured Shelter: Pet Door Rescue, WV

by Kristy on June 14, 2010

Every month there will be a new featured shelter here on My Pet Savings. My hope is that by featuring great shelters some of you pet lovers might feel compelled to donate to them in some way. Not only can you donate money, but did you know that you can donate all of the free and cheap pet products that you receive via My Pet Savings? So if you own a cat but not a dog, you can still donate the dog products to an animal shelter. You will be helping animals in more ways than you know.

This month’s featured shelter is Pet Door Rescue located in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

Pet Door Rescue was nominated by a reader named Lauren. Here is her email expressing her deep gratitude:

“I would love to nominate Pet Door Rescue in Buckhannon, WV. To my knowledge our small rural town does not have a large animal shelter, that is when Pet Door Rescue started. A group of volunteers take animals in and shelter them in their own homes while working in the community to find a suitable adopter. I personally adopted my cat who was living with Veronica, one of the Pet Door volunteers, for several months. She takes care of several cats and devoted her time to promoting getting cats spayed and neutered. She has built a firm relationship with the veternarian in town and they work together to reduce unneccesary uthenasia. Veronica is a saint! She raised money for my cat and several others to be spayed. Just last night I noticed my cat has worms and she rushed to the vet this morning, in a snow storm, and came to my house and gave my cat the medicine she needed. I can not express what a kind heard this women, and her co-volunteers, at Pet Door Rescue have. They work out of their home and are barely recognized. We live in a rural county in West Virginia, famous for the Sago mining accident several years ago. Fundraising is hard to do in such a poor county but somehow Pet Door Rescue finds a way. They deserved to be recognized.”-Lauren

Show your support for Pet Door Rescue by “Liking” them on the Pet Door Rescue Facebook Page. While you’re there, stop by the new My Pet Savings Facebook Page and “Like” us too. :) Also, be sure to browse the adorable Pet Door Rescue  pets that are available for adoption.

Here is an adorable kitten and dog under the adoption section on Facebook:

They are a very small rescue group and they raise all of their own money via fundraisers and donations. If you feel compelled to give to Pet Door Rescue, contact them via email: petsramust @ yahoo .com. You might be thinking, “this is a savings blog, how am I saving money  by donating it?” Well, if you have saved money in any way, via the coupons, deals or freebies on My Pet Savings, then you should be able to donate something…even the smallest amount helps. Not only are you interested in saving money, but you are saving animals as well. If a 100 people donated a $1, that would be $100 raised to save animals. How cool would that be!

Thanks to Lauren for nominating Pet Door Rescue to be the featured shelter. Have a shelter that you would love to nominate? Email me your nomination to mypetsavings (at) gmail.com.

What a great shelter! I love how you are going to feature shelters now every month, that’s awesome–they do deserve it for sure.
